PROOFREADING & EDITING SERVICES

Editing

If you’re hitting a brick wall when it comes to your essay or personal statement, don’t panic. I can help.

Comprehensive analysis.

I will begin by requesting everything you’ll be sending to the school with your application that you have in your possession (sometimes people don’t have their letters of recommendation, but we’ll discuss that). I’ll also analyze the program to which you’re applying to get a full understanding of how you measure up to their standards. Essentially, I will help you craft an applicant narrative that we will use strategically in your application.

Essay outline for writing your first draft.

While I will not write your essay for you, I will deliver my suggestions for what I would recommend you include in your essay and my ideas for how you might structure the essay.

Back-and-forth revision process.

You’ll send your first draft to me, and I’ll offer my suggested edits and send it back. Rinse and repeat for round two. Then, I’ll send you the final proofread polish. If at any point you feel like you need personal coaching during the process, you have access to a one-time discount of $50 off my private coaching fee. If you are able to get revisions back to me in a timely manner, this process can take roughly 3-5 business days. If you are in a time crunch, I can speed up my part of the process for an additional fee (but please remember—I cannot meet unreasonable deadlines if you don’t have the availability to do your part quickly). Please message me if you’re unsure what turnaround to request.

Please note:
I do not offer refunds on my services. If you are hesitant about whether this is the right purchase for you, please contact me and I will let you know if I think it’s a good fit.

Please Note: Due to my holiday travel schedule, I will not be able to begin any more essay work until 12/29.

I will have limited availability upon my return. You are welcome to book now to secure your spot, but please understand we will not begin our work until 12/29. If you have questions about whether I can accommodate your timeline and essay due-date, please contact me directly.

Proofreading

If you’ve already written your essay and are confident about the content of what you’ve written, but you’d like some eyes on it before you send it off, this is the service for you.

Close reading with detailed suggestions.

I will read for style, structure, voice, flow, and grammar. While I won’t strategically advise you on the content of the essay, I’ll make sure it sounds professional yet personable. If you send me the instructions provided by the program for which you’re applying, I’ll make sure you’ve formatted correctly.

IMPORTANT: For this service, I do not provide my feedback about WHAT you’ve written, only HOW you’ve written it. I do not assess your applicant narrative, whether you are positioning yourself in an appealing way, whether you are including too many or too few personal details, etc. For that kind of feedback, you will want to book the editing service above.

But Carrie!

  • By editing an essay? Hahahahaha no. There’s not a single shred of evidence* to suggest that either the content or the quality of your application essays correlates with your future therapy client outcomes. In fact, personal statements could be contributing to inequity in the admissions process. So, nope. I don’t feel bad. Essay-writing is a dark art, and I happen to be good at it. You shouldn’t be penalized if you’re not.

*if you have this evidence, BY ALL MEANS PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

  • Yes. But essay editing and proofreading take an enormous amount of time and meticulous work (as you know, if you’ve taken at a stab at it already). I do my best to make a lot of free information accessible on this site, but I have to charge for personalized services like these. I do hope one day that the admissions process will be revamped, but until that day, I’ll keep doing what I do.
