Length of Program

4 years with full-time studies as one course in each 8-week term over a 6-term calendar year. Time to degree completion can be shortened by accelerating completion of courses and through credits accepted in transfer.

Schedule/Format

CalSouthern is a 100% online university, with zero requirements to travel or having to complete courses in a classroom setting. Our courses start on the 1st of every month, and your enrollment must be finalized by the 25th of the month before your anticipated start date. Each course is eight weeks in length. Typically, our learners complete 1 course at a time, which is considered full-time. We recommend spending 15-20 hours per week on each course. There are no specific log-in times, group projects, or set due dates, which will enable you to complete the coursework during times that fit within your schedule.

All our courses are asynchronous therefore not log in times or pre-recorded lectures. You will log in according to your availability and time dedicated to your studies.

We don’t have cohorts since we have monthly start dates and the self-pace flexibility allows Learners to move at the pace that best aligns with their individual goals. Each mentor usually has no more than 10 Learners give or take, however, your mentoring will be 1:1.

Fieldwork Hours Accrued During Program

Approximately 300 hours of practicum. You will be responsible for finding the site and location of where you will secure your practicum/internship site. It can not be in private practice. You will be provided a handbook of places and locations where some of our previous Learners completed their hours.

Personal Psychotherapy Requirement During Program

We have monthly start dates with the next application phase working on July, August and Sept. 1st start dates, all deadlines are before or by the 20th of the previous month according to your ideal start date. Anyone wanting to start in July, must finalize before or by the 20th of June.

The Master of Arts (MA) in Psychology, with an Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy degree is a program designed for those interested in pursuing a career as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) and/or as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). The California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) has approved CalSouthern’s MA degree program for meeting the educational requirements for both Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) licensure per California Business and Professions Code (BPC) Sections 4980.36, 4980.37, 4980.39, 4980.41 (as required by BPC Section 4980.38); and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) per California Business and Professions Code (BPC) Sections 4999.32 and 4999.33 (as required by BPC Section 4999.40(a)) in the State of California.
